IDAHO FALLS – Construction is underway on a new youth residential mental health treatment facility in Idaho Falls.
Jackson House is under construction at 383 Energy Drive.
Staff and workers from Headwaters Construction Co., the contractor on the project, broke ground on the 18,000-square-foot building on Thursday.
Jackson House CEO Bruce Figuered told EastIdahoNews.com that the facility provides “comfortable residential treatment” for teens struggling with substance abuse and other mental health issues.
“Patients stay in the facility for an extended period of time if necessary. During that time, they participate in clinical groups. If medication management is required, they can receive individualized psychiatric care. I also plan to undergo therapy,” Figueredo said.
It will also include family services, a program that helps patients return to their homes. This element is an important part of the program to help clients avoid relapse, Figgard says.

Because patients may be hospitalized for a long period of time, educational services are available to ensure they do not fall behind in their studies.
The facility will have 38 beds and will be able to house that many young people at one time.
The building’s construction was prompted by the rise in cases of mental illness nationwide. Depression and anxiety are becoming increasingly common, and teenagers are especially susceptible, Figuled said.
Figured said the clinic’s home-like environment is much better than a psychiatric ward and is more beneficial to clients’ recovery.
“We can provide a high level of service in a comfortable environment without feeling trapped and stripped of all rights as you would in a psychiatric hospital,” he says.
Figuered and Chief Development Officer Chad Engbrecht liked the location for its proximity to other clinics and other amenities in the area.
State grants are how the project is funded. This will be the first Jackson House Clinic in Idaho.
The work is expected to be completed around this time next year.
While it’s unfortunate that so many teens are struggling with these issues, Figureard is glad that these types of services are now available to those who need them.
“We take great pride in our work and look forward to coming here and working in this area and serving the youth and families of this area,” Figueredo said.
