The yogurt aisle can be a nutritional minefield. You’ll find products that are high in protein, low in carbohydrates, sugar-free, Greek-style, Greek-inspired, natural, plain, and flavored.

With so many options out there, it can be difficult to decipher which one is best, and specifically which variety is best for you.

Yogurts may look very similar, but a look at the nutritional panel reveals important differences.

Yogurt is generally a nutritious food, containing many essential nutrients such as calcium, protein, and magnesium, and many varieties are rich in beneficial bacteria that are known to nourish the digestive system and keep it healthy. I am.

Since yogurt is such a popular household staple, I took a closer look at the nutritional profile of some of the best-selling yogurts in supermarkets and frequently recommend them to my own clients to support their dietary goals. We figured it was time to share some yogurt.

Supermarket top seller ratings

1.YoPRO Vanilla

With a simple ingredient list, this product is naturally rich in protein thanks to the traditional pureeing process, increasing its overall protein content. It is similar to many types of Greek yogurt sold in supermarkets that utilize “Greek-style” processing using thickeners and gums to create a consistency similar to real Greek yogurt. will be compared.

2. Chobani Greek Plains

With 15 grams of protein per serving and no added sugar or natural sweeteners like rice starch or fruit pulp, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a tastier high-protein sweet yogurt.

3. Farmers’ Union Greek Style

Relatively high in fat due to its whole milk and cream base, it contains no additives and contains probiotics to support digestive health, making it ideal for inclusion in snacks and meals. It lacks protein content. Despite being Greek-style rather than traditional Greek yogurt, its high fat content creates creaminess and lends itself well to baking, making it a good choice for light sauces and baking.

4. Jalna Greek Natural

All-natural, this yogurt is great for baking, but it’s higher in fat and lower in protein than some newer yogurts on the market.

5. Farmers Union Greek Vanilla

This option has added sugar, creating a sweet yogurt with nearly 3 teaspoons of sugar per serving. There are better Greek-style yogurts that are lower in fat and sugar.

6. Greek style in Tamar Valley

Another simple plain yogurt made only from milk and cream, it contains less protein and more fat than many high-protein, low-fat yogurts available today.

7. Yoplait 98% fat-free vanilla

It is highly processed and one of the few yogurts that still contains artificial sweeteners. There are better, more natural yogurts that provide more nutrients and are more filling than this option.

My nutritional recommendations

evia greek skim

With little more than skim milk in its base and a massive 17g of natural protein per serving, this yogurt (if you can find it) is hard to ignore in terms of nutrition and flavor. This is one of the few supermarket yogurts that is true Greek yogurt, thanks to the traditional straining method used to concentrate the natural protein content in the yogurt.

Yopuro

Whether you choose a larger tub, a flavored pouch or pot, or a protein-performing range pot with 20g or more for active people, consider this sweet yogurt option for its overall nutritional value and low calorie load. It cannot be ignored.

Chobani

Low in fat and high in protein, it’s one of the best low-calorie plain yogurts to mix with cereals, smoothies, and fruit.

activia

One of the few sugar-free, low-fat fruit yogurts. Not only is this yogurt free of artificial ingredients, but it’s also scientifically proven to contain probiotics that support digestive health.

Although different styles of yogurt may look similar, their nutritional profiles vary widely.
