After a rainy and windy spring, it feels so good to see the sun. He has a lot to do at the library this May, so check out the following events:
Join us on Wednesday, May 8th at 6:30pm for a timely discussion about the role mental illness plays in our lives. “Out of the Basement: Working Together to Achieve Mental Health,” by Ledgewright Health District Health Director Jennifer Muzio, Town of Waterford Human Services Director Dani Gorman, and Waterford High School School Psychologist Lori Houser. A guest panel will appear. school.
We’re looking forward to welcoming author Katie Tietjen. Wednesday, May 15, 6:30pm Inspired by real crimes and offering readers a cleverly plotted mystery puzzle, Death in the Details is a stunning series debut.
A virtual discussion titled “AI Essentials: A 60-Minute Primer” will be held on Tuesday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m. Easy to understand about artificial intelligence.
“You don’t know what’s in you until it’s gone! “The Importance of Historic Preservation” with Stefon Danczuk of Preservation Connecticut will be held on Thursday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m. Co-sponsor of this event is the Waterford Historical Society.
A virtual presentation on “Social Security Myths and Realities: What You Need to Know” will be held on Tuesday, May 28th at 6:00 pm with Rod Duxbury, Raymond James Financial Advisor, Liberty Bank.
On May 9th at 6:30 p.m., Dr. Eric Fleury, assistant professor of government and international relations at the University of Connecticut, will give a short lecture on the current situation in Russia, followed by a question-and-answer session.
This month’s virtual author talk begins Wednesday, May 1 at 3 p.m. with author Douglas Brandt speaking about his debut nonfiction work, “The Mysterious Case of Rudolf Diesel: Genius, Power, and Deception on the Eve of World War I.” I’ll tell you.
On Wednesday, May 8, at 7 p.m., author Nina Simon will tell a hilarious detective story about the grandmother-mother-daughter amateur detective trio called “Night of the Mother-Daughter Murder.”
On Tuesday, May 21 at 7 p.m., Rebecca F. Quan will discuss her novel Yellowface, which tackles issues of diversity, racism, cultural appropriation, and the horrific alienation of social media. These talks are presented in partnership with the Library Speakers Consortium.
On Thursday, May 9, from 5:30 p.m., join us for Teen Craft Night, for ages 11 to 18, to create wall hangings using yarn and decorative flowers. Registration required. For ages 12-18, join us in the teen area on Thursday, May 23rd from 5:30pm to 7pm for a drop-in craft night to make origami flowers. Registration is not required.
There will be a special musical storytime with Hilary Samay on Monday, May 6th at 10:30am. Families have the opportunity to shake off their silliness and play with percussion instruments and scarves. The target age range is from birth to her 5 years of age. Registration is not required.
Please come to the meeting room any time between 1:00pm and 3:00pm on Saturday, May 4th. You are invited to join us for the first session of Sensory Saturday. The program creates a welcoming and inclusive environment where neurodiverse youth and their families can hang out and move through a variety of interactive stations. All ages are welcome. Registration is not required. We would like to thank the Kelsey S. Harrington Foundation for funding this program.
Our Junior Science Fiction Book Club will be on Monday, May 20th from 5pm. Choose any book in the science fiction genre, share it with your group, and then make a craft. Recommended age is 6 to 8 years old. Registration is not required.
We are delighted to welcome Janine back for two sessions on ‘Sign Language and Song Stories’ on Saturday 4th May at 10:30am and Friday 17th May at 10:30am. These special story times include basic signs performed by both children and their parents. You can benefit from knowing. Target age range is from birth to 6 years old. Registration is not required. Join us for Ms. Emmy’s Bilingual Pajama Storytime on Tuesday, May 7th at 5:30 p.m. Read books and sing songs in English and Spanish. Feel free to wear jammies! The target age range is from 0 to 5 years old, and no registration is required. We would like to thank the Eastern Connecticut Community Foundation for funding this program.
Please note that Monday morning Family Storytime will be closed for the month of May and will resume on Monday, June 3rd at 10:30am.
Join local UConn 4-H New London program presenters on Tuesday, May 21 at 5 p.m. for a hands-on activity of building a wind-powered vehicle using Lego. Test your creativity and engineering skills to see whose vehicle can go further. The target age is 6 years old and above, and registration is required.
May’s artist is Camilla Buckle. Her exhibitions include watercolors, floral paintings, zentangles, mixed media, and collages.
