You probably already have both staples in your fridge.

Jennifer Garner is near the top of the list of celebrities you’d dream of cooking with and sitting around the table with, along with Ina Garten and Stanley Tucci. We’ve been big fans of her social media-based “Pretend Cooking Show” ever since she started her show way back in 2017.
So far, this “fake” cooking show has given us a few things. genuine Dishes like her childhood favorite chiffon pie, her grandmother’s “taste of home” cornbread, luscious brown butter and sage pasta, and chewy lemon-olive oil cake are winners.
Of course, we could barely keep it together when Ms. Garner told us she had made one of our recipes “100 times.” By the way, she was referring to our authentic homemade bagels. This would be great paired with the old but delicious butter upgrade we’re celebrating today.
In April 2021, Garner shared this ridiculously simple recipe. Three years later, this is still the recipe we swear by. So we wanted to walk you through it and share the different ways you can put this versatile and decadent piece to good use.
How to make Jennifer Garner’s maple butter
“Here’s something that will make your life better: maple butter,” Garner said, offering a quick demonstration of what she called “the most obvious staple” in the caption.
Follow Garner’s advice and melt a stick (8 tablespoons) of butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir frequently using a heat-resistant spatula to ensure even melting. Pour in just under 3/4 cup Grade B maple syrup and whisk to combine. (The video shows Garner actually goofing around and doing the opposite, but it gets you to the same goal: “Either way, you’re going to stir them together.”) Garner explains: “It doesn’t matter!”
Jennifer Garner’s drizzleable, nutty, maple-scented butter.
“I’m going to eat something… about something. I don’t know what. Ice cream? I don’t care,” she said as she began searching the kitchen for the perfect vehicle for this luscious butter.
How to use maple butter
Fans commented, “Just drink it,” but Garner ended up slathering homemade maple butter on a slice of frosted cinnamon raisin bread. But that’s not the only option for using this sweet classic. Here are 10 other fascinating ideas on how to use maple butter.
-
For buttermilk biscuits or cornbread
-
On toast or toasted bagel (optional cinnamon sugar topping)
-
I poured it into the gap between the waffles.
-
drizzle over pancakes
-
On top of French toast
-
Take your ice cream to the next level (take it to the next level with a pinch of flaky sea salt and a handful of candied pecans!)
-
Replace Plain Butter in Hot Butter Rum Recipe
-
Pour over warm banana bread or pumpkin bread slices
-
Serve as a side dish with roasted carrots, roasted butternut squash, or split roasted sweet potatoes.
-
Drizzle over fried chicken (kind of a sweet play on Nashville hot chicken)
While we’re talking about options, this isn’t the only way to make maple butter. This 4.6-star maple butter recipe invites brown sugar and pumpkin pie spice to the party for a whipped, thicker spread. If you want to enjoy maple syrup in its purest form, try Pure His Maple Butter (technically maple cream), which resembles spreadable maple-flavored fudge.
In any case, an “alias” may be needed when the family realizes how quickly we eat this “obvious staple.”
