MYSURU: Mehul Taj, a 16-year-old girl from Bangalore, drowned in Cauvery water at Talakad in Mysuru on Sunday. She was with her family when the tragedy occurred. Talakad police said Meru had come with her family, including her parents. Police said she drowned in the river while she was playing and her body was recovered.

Mandya: A police constable belonging to the Indian Army, who was undergoing training at Bengaluru’s Neelasandra, drowned in the Cauvery river at Gaganachukki falls under Belakavadi police jurisdiction. According to police, the deceased was Kaushik Kumar, 26, from Gujarat. They said Kaushik slipped while going down to the waterfall around 11 am on Sunday. His body was recovered from a depth of 500 feet on Monday morning, police added. Kumar reached the waterfall with his friends. The body was handed over to the Army after post-mortem.
Fallen tree affects traffic along Shiradi
Hassan: Traffic movement on National Highway 75 connecting Mangaluru and Bengaluru was affected after a huge tree fell on the road late on Sunday. Hundreds of vehicles collided at the ghat in Sakleshpur taluk. A tree had fallen on the road due to the wind and rain. It took more than two hours to remove the tree. Forest department, police, PWD, NHAI and municipal authorities managed to clear the trees and traffic. It was the first heavy rain in three months in this area.
