Did you know that 50% of the people we serve at True North Housing Alliance report having a mental health condition?
No matter what someone is facing when they walk through our doors, we want them to know this important message. “You are not alone, and your mental health matters.”
For people experiencing homelessness and losing everything, accessing treatment can be a huge barrier that can feel insurmountable.
Stigma around mental health makes it difficult for people to seek help and access the help they need. Additionally, rural counties like ours face the challenge of having fewer resources than larger cities.
When someone joins True North’s programs, we do everything we can to address this need within our community. The first step we take with someone is their stability. A key element of that is their mental health.
We partner with local mental health providers and agencies to make referrals and help people access all the support, therapy, and treatment they need.
We offer mental health counseling on-site at Torres Shelter each week, as well as wellness and mindfulness classes.
Our team members are also trained in crisis intervention, de-escalation, and trauma-informed care.
When the community supports our programs, you support our efforts to help remove barriers to mental health care for those in need in our community.
This Mental Health Awareness Month, remember that your mental health is important and there’s no shame in asking for help. you are not alone.
