TAMPA, Fla. — A chapter of the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization is preparing for a big event this weekend.
As part of 600 affiliated groups across the United States, 23 of which are in Florida, NAMI Hillsboro bridges the gap in the Tampa Bay area’s youth and young adult population.
“What we have done at NAMI Hillsborough is establish an initiative called Youth Minds Matter Hillsborough, or YMMH, which will ultimately be held on May 18th at USF Tampa’s Marshall Student Center for Youth and Young Adult Wellness. We will be hosting a summit,” said Demetric Watkins of NAMI Hillsborough. He said.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the interactive and immersive event will feature inspiring keynote speakers, informative breakout sessions, a free catered lunch, 24 local vendors from surrounding communities, and more.
There is also a segment on artistic expression.
“So, at the end of the summit, youth and young adults will be able to really put on a performance through poetry, spoken word, song, dance, all the ways they can express themselves,” Watkins said.
He went on to say that events like this are vitally important to young people who will be our future leaders, and there is no better way to invest in them than by prioritizing their health.
