Is poop from anal sex really a problem? Why does it happen and what to do

If you’re preparing to have anal sex for the first time, you probably have a few questions. The biggest question is, is poop from anal sex real?

Are you ready?…Yeah, it could happen. But before you panic, rest assured that there are things you can do to make it less of a hassle and more of an enjoyable experience. (Related: 15 anal sex positions for beginners to experts to try)

Why poop comes out during anal sex

First, let’s really understand what anal sex is. Fear of pooping because a penis or sex toy sticks up your butt is common and normal. “Remember, the anus is designed for things to come out more than it goes in,” says Taylor Sparks, erotic educator and founder of OrganicLoven.com. #fact.

It’s also worth learning a little anatomy lesson. The colon processes waste and sends it to the rectum (where it temporarily stays) and then to the anus (where it exits the body). If you don’t actually feel the need to poop, your rectum is probably empty, so it’s not a big problem, but there’s still a chance your partner will come across some deeply penetrated feces. So when you embark on this journey, that’s the game you’re playing, and there’s always the possibility of a little leakage.

“If you have stool in your rectum and there’s irritation in your rectum, you’re more likely to have a bowel movement,” says Lauren Streicher, M.D., medical director of the Northwestern Medicine Center for Sexual Medicine and Menopause Medicine.

But this is also why anal sex is so pleasurable. “It stimulates the pelvic floor, causing it to contract and cause poop to come out,” she added. If there’s poop in there, it’s likely to get out. (P.S. Here’s what anal sex really feels like, according to women who’ve tried it)

Additionally, a weak anal sphincter, which controls bowel movements, may make you more prone to leaking during backdoor play, explains Dr. Alleyne Markland, associate professor of medicine at the University of Alabama. (More on this later.)

Yes, I would like to prevent that from happening. Tell me how.

If you can remember one mantra for anal sex, make it this one. “Make sure poop isn’t the culprit,” says Massachusetts sexologist Juliet Allen. You don’t want to get too full, so be sure to empty your pipe beforehand. And if you know you may have an anus in the future, avoid eating foods that pass through your body, such as spicy or fatty foods, as this may increase your chances of pooping in the anus. Please don’t (soooo, just don’t order it), she added. Chili fries! ). Some people try enemas to clean things out, but this is usually safe if used occasionally, says Dr. Streicher.

You can also try a shallower penetration to reduce risk. And if your partner has a penis with a naturally large corona [head of the penis], be prepared that there’s a good chance you’ll poop as well. If this is your first time having anal sex, start slowly and gradually. If you’re new to it, don’t go as deep as you can on your first try.

In fact, some experts say to start very slowly. “Start by warming up your partner with a lower back massage, reaching up to the top of the butt crack, also known as the sacrum,” Sparks says. Once your partner is comfortable or aroused, start by gently inserting one lubricated finger into her anus to stimulate the nerve endings. ”

If you’re worried about the aforementioned weak sphincter problems, doing Kegels regularly can help strengthen those muscles. And yes, what I’m talking about is butt Kegels. Did you guess who it was?!

But why do I still feel like I’m about to shit myself?

Allen explains that it probably feels like it’s happening anyway. Once penetrated, the muscles there will move in the same way as during BM.

Therefore, Dr. Streicher verifies that you can get that feeling even if there is nothing inside or nothing comes out. Your best bet is to just relax and enjoy the moment.

Yes, it happened. Now, what should we do?

The truth is, you have to be ready to tap into your inner shrug emoji. “The reality is that when we choose to have anal sex, we choose to put something in our butts, and that’s where the poop comes out. So that’s on us. It’s a risk,” Allen says. If she leaks and you feel embarrassed (or more), remember that sex can be an awkward activity. If you take a shower together to wash it off, you’ll hardly notice.

The important thing is to try anal sex instead of not being uninterested in it because you’re afraid of the possibility of poop. “You shouldn’t be afraid to try sexual activities that you enjoy,” Markland says. “Choose a great partner or lover to have sex with, and you’ll end up with someone who’s not that big of a deal,” says Allen. Good advice in general.
