AES plant “safeization” process continues
Redondo Beach Mayor Jim Wright reported during his May 9 State of the Union address that the decommissioned AES plant is undergoing a “safe” (safe mode) process.
It was disconnected from the 220 kilovolt (high tower) power line, the natural gas line was capped and the hazardous liquid was removed.
One of the liquids was a tank of ammonia, used to clean exhaust gases. The work is part of a six-month process by AES to seal the plant.
“After that, everything is up to Leo,” Wright told EasyReader, referring to site co-owner Leo Pustilnikov, whose bankruptcy filing could affect future ownership of the factory.

Bacteria abundance warning in Redondo Beach waters
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health issued a bacteria advisory for Redondo Beach on Monday after officials found high levels of bacteria in seawater samples in the area near the Redondo Beach Pier. The area extended to 100 yards south and 100 yards north.
Beaches in Malibu, Marina del Rey, Santa Monica and San Pedro also recorded samples above state standards. High levels of bacteria can cause illness.
Fix:
The article “Building BeachLife” (Easy Reader, May 2, 2024) incorrectly identified the company that built the BeachLife stage. Stage Techs of Santa Fe Springs, California built his two main stages: High Tide and Low Tide. Accurate Staging of Los Angeles built the festival’s VIP structure and mezzanine.
