Just a few minutes south of town and nestled in the Hubbert community is a Pilates studio known as Rhine Wellness Studio. Started by Suzanne, also known as Susie, she offers a variety of classes including barre, reformer, and mat work in addition to solo training. It’s been about a year and a half since I opened my studio.
She first started out as a massage therapist, but Pilates was a natural next step. She found an opportunity to open her own movement and wellness studio in her own backyard.
Can you tell us the story behind the establishment of your business and how you got started?
Part of my inspiration for this studio is to bring my own background as a massage therapist and Pilates instructor to the community. I wanted to share my modality and help people experience improved health and enjoyment of their bodies while doing so in a quiet and calm space.
I love educating people about their bodies and have always dreamed of owning a small studio. I had been an instructor for a while and a massage therapist for even longer, but I wanted to be able to offer my work to the community in my own way.

Do you have any advice for other women who want to become entrepreneurs or start their own small business?
My advice to women starting a business is to start where you are with what you have. It doesn’t have to be perfect.
Also, cherish every connection you make. It could be a connection with a hairstylist, physical therapist, or accountant. Every relationship matters.
Understand the value behind what you offer and learn as much as you can about not only your art, products, and services, but all the other important parts like finance (we actually do finance!) and marketing. Let’s learn about it. There are so many tools to learn, like Pinterest and Instagram, and so much to learn from other business owners.
But most importantly, be authentic. Don’t expect perfection, just do the best you can honestly.

Looking to the future, what are your goals and aspirations for the future of your business and how do you envision continuing to make an impact as a woman-owned business?
Continuous improvement of the business includes several renovations. We hope to add outdoor training space and windows for more views of the mountains. This is the toilet I currently use at home, so I plan to add one.
In the future, I would really like to join forces with local experts to host retreats, whether it be here in Golden or somewhere else in the tropics.
I know I have a lot to learn about my body and how to gently and thoughtfully integrate positive changes. At the end of the day, I just want to help people feel better.
