I didn’t really like rain or drizzle. But after a long weekend, I found myself watching clouds roll down from the ocean over the cliffs. highcliffWe found that the rain didn’t bother us in the stylish ground floor kitchen. That’s a concern in London.
Our luxury holiday home in North Cornwall has a prime location up the hill from Polzeath Beach, and you won’t find a better location in Cornwall. You can see the sea from the window. Daymer Bay, The Rock and Padstow are all within walking distance. A Pilates instructor is always on site to help you with any worries you may have after a walk, surf, or golf. Oh, and there’s also a gym, tennis court, and yoga classes on-site. Not bad if you’re signing up for a self-catering holiday.
There are 46 homes in total, ranging from cozy three-bedroom cottages to stunning five-bedroom properties with private terraces overlooking the sea. The atmosphere is minimalist and modern luxury, yet refreshing and relaxing. The same family continues to run this property (formerly a farm) for three generations.
From sunsets by the sea to post-surf sound healing sessions, there’s plenty to do.
Where?
Located in the heart of Trevetherick, North Cornwall, just a 10 minute downhill walk from Polzeath Beach.
Greenaway Beach is a 15 minute walk, Daymar Bay is 20 minutes away and The Rock is a slightly longer walk across the golf course. From there you can catch the ferry to Padstow.

The atmosphere at Highcliff is relaxed yet upscale, with something for everyone, whether you’re a couple looking for a romantic weekend by the sea or a family group on a half-term break. The state-of-the-art property is sleek and modern, designed to make the most of natural light, with a huge open kitchen/living room and long sweeping windows offering impressive views into the distance. Even on a boring day, it will keep you transfixed.
It has a relaxed, family-run atmosphere. Owner Rob built Highcliffe on his old family farm (before becoming Highcliffe in 1997 it was a pick your own strawberry farm with a small farm shop). He currently manages the place with his daughter Becca, a former music manager for stars such as: Robbie Williams is an avid runner who can often be found on the coastal path. There is also a family atmosphere among the guests. Many people come back every year.
Which property?
Set within eight acres of landscaped gardens, Highcliff offers a wide range of properties to choose from, from cozy cottages to modern homes (46 in total). Find your property by searching for 3 bed, 4 bed or 5 bed properties on the Highcliff site. Some of the old houses have recently been renovated by Becca. Some of the newest ones are still under construction.
Each home has at least one bedroom with twin beds, great gaming consoles and board games for the kids, and some dog-friendly rooms if you’re bringing your pet. Many homes have downstairs bedrooms in case you need disabled access.
We stayed in Botallack, one of Highcliffe’s newest four-bedroom dog-friendly properties, with polished concrete floors, a double-height entrance and access to the ground floor living room. It had a beautiful handcrafted oak staircase that looked like it came straight out of an interior design brochure. . Soft colors and quality linens, an outdoor hot shower for washing up after a day at the beach, and a huge kitchen with a large island and an even larger dining table make it perfect for large family gatherings or playing games while watching the sunset. Perfect for a night out. Ocean.
Speaking of sunset, the real highlight is the first floor balcony, accessed from the kitchen via large sliding doors. Choose a summer evening, sip a drink on an outdoor couch and watch the sky fill with color as the sun sets behind the clouds. I could have stayed there all day.

Self-catering but in a luxurious style, each home is equipped with an American-made fridge-freezer, Nespresso machine, dishwasher and oven, and an on-site cafe will soon open in the reception and yoga studio building.
Highcliffe is located in the heart of Cornwall’s so-called ‘Gourmet Triangle’, so there’s plenty of delicious food to be found off-site. Popular family restaurant The Mowhay and popular local pub The Oystercatcher are both a short walk away, and Polzeath has plenty of stylish eateries, from the surfside of the beach to the cliff-top Atlantic Kitchen.
Nearby Padstow is worth the walk just for the food.eco british middle east deli sabzi serves some of the best coffee in town (be sure to try owner Kate’s famous homemade love cakes). Other highlights include Rick Stein’s The Seafood Restaurant, Stein’s Fish and Chips and Paul Ainsworth’s six Michelin star restaurant. It’s only a 35 minute drive.
Facility
There are two tennis courts on site, one overlooking the ocean, and both are free for guests to use. But the real Highcliffe is a recently opened state-of-the-art gym, yoga and Pilates studio that hosts retreats as well as daily yoga, Pilates, meditation and sound healing classes (including one-on-one) . Walking into the reforming room is like walking into a luxurious London studio, with luxurious Chapter Organics amenities, sleek wooden interiors, and the chicest reforming machine I’ve ever seen. It makes me feel good. Instructor Anna Claggett is a keen golfer and Pilates expert who lives locally and is perfect for anyone looking to dip their toe into the UK’s most popular new workouts or keep up a regular practice while on holiday We offer people everything from mat Pilates to personal training on our reformer machines. . She will tailor your workout to you and happily share local walking, running and golfing tips to help you on your next day out.
Local surf instructor George Stoy loves taking Highcliff guests out on the water, as well as at Wavehunters Surf School on Polzeath Beach. Cornish Rock He Sea is popular with cyclists at Tolls where he kayaks, coast steers, Wild He swims, Camel Ski School waterskis and wakeboards on the River Camel, Padstow He Cycles his Hire.
The world-class St Endoc Golf Course is just around the corner, with views across the Camel Estuary. Nearby Hotel St. Moritz includes the Cowshed Spa. New Polzeath’s Sauna by the Sea is also a must-see for spa lovers, with his 10-person wood-burning sauna bookable right next to the beach.
