Harlingen, Texas (Valley Central) — Harlingen Unified Independent School District is offering free mental health counseling sessions for students this summer.
This session is available Monday through Thursday, June 3-27 and July 8-18 from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Counseling will be held in the HCISD annex, and walk-ins are welcome.
Kathy Steadman, student wellness specialist in the Harlingen CISD Guidance and Counseling Department, said this is a great opportunity for students to receive one-on-one counseling.
“In our summer counseling sessions, we incorporate games to teach children social skills, learn how to win and lose gracefully, self-awareness, how to regulate their emotions, and learn how to work with children on emotional intelligence. ,” Steadman said.
HCISD enrolled students ages 3 to 18, Pre-K through 12th grade, are eligible to register for summer counseling.
Steadman added that he also plans to bring an emotional support animal during summer counseling sessions.

“Some kids really rely on mental health support during the school year, and this program allows them to have ongoing mental health support throughout the summer,” she said. Ta.
Harlingen CISD also has licensed professional counselors available Monday through Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
