Faye Roberts, 46, was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer after discovering a lump under her right breast while showering in March 2023, and underwent five months of chemotherapy.
One cancer patient said hypnosis helped him mentally overcome his illness by imagining chemotherapy killing cancer cells.
Faye Roberts, 46, discovered a lump under her right breast while taking a shower in March 2023. The following week, she saw a doctor and had an ultrasound and biopsy. That same day, Faye received the devastating news that she had stage 3 breast cancer, which had spread to her breasts.
She immediately began five months of chemotherapy and underwent a lumpectomy (surgery to remove cancer or other abnormal tissue from the breast) in November 2023. In December 2023, it was discovered that her cancer had spread to her armpit and Faye had to undergo another surgery. Lymph nodes – so she removed them.
In February 2024, after 20 radiation treatments, Faye rang the bell and was declared cancer-free. Ms Faye said that throughout her diagnosis and treatment, she used hypnotherapy (recording scripts that put her into a hypnotic state) to get her through, and she said her mental health had greatly improved. Ta.
Fay, a hypnotherapist from Southend, Essex, said: “When I was diagnosed I fell into a really dark place. It was stage 3 for me and I was very shocked and upset. I put myself through hypnotherapy. I started it. I wrote the script.” – Visualizing the chemo taking effect and killing the cancer – and hearing that back and that really helped me get out of that dark place.
“I was scared to undergo chemotherapy, so I wrote a script to help myself visualize chemotherapy and what it did for me.” After finding the lump, Faye said: I immediately went to the doctor and had an ultrasound and biopsy. She said: “Her nurse held my hand while she was being examined and I could see tears in her eyes.
“From that moment on, I knew this wasn’t good. When the doctor told me I had cancer, I was devastated. I went to the hospital myself and couldn’t stop crying.” After that. Faye underwent five months of chemotherapy starting in April 2023. She says hypnosis helped her get through the treatment because she was able to “visualize the effects” by watching the chemotherapy attack the cancer cells.
She said: “I was very worried about chemotherapy because I didn’t know how I would react. I was scared of chemotherapy, so I tried to change my way of thinking. Visualizing the cancer disappearing with chemotherapy. I wrote a script for it, and I guess it helped because the lump didn’t seem to get any smaller, but I remained positive.
“It wasn’t until after the last round of chemotherapy that I felt it getting smaller.” Faye then underwent surgery to remove the tumor in November 2023. A few months after the surgery, it was discovered that her cancer had spread to her axillary lymph nodes and had to be removed in December 2023.
She said, “The pain after the surgery was very painful. I used hypnotherapy to get my mindset in order. It really helped me feel like I was in control of my recovery.” Faye then underwent 20 radiation treatments, and she rang the bell in February 2024, announcing she was cancer-free.
She said: “It was a really emotional moment and brought tears to my eyes. It’s been a year of treatment, and it’s great to tell the kids that they’ve been struggling all this time. It’s great for people to know that there is something that can help.” I was in a very dark place myself after going through all this, and hypnosis really helped me.
“It really helped me get out of a difficult situation with diagnosis and treatment.”
