An Australian family food blogger has captured the attention of his followers with a rather unconventional hack for grilling meat. “Have you ever tried cooking silversides with Coca-Cola?” she asked on her popular Facebook page, a collection of recipes and family travel tips.
Regarding her motivation, she said, “I saw a post online that said it was very natural, so I wanted to try it.” Then, an unexpected discovery was made. “She was surprised by how good it tasted,” she said, and she knew she would definitely cook it again.

As she explained, the process was very simple: just put the meat in the slow cooker with two liters of Coke and let it cook for hours.
“I had to get over the fact that I was cooking with a Coca-Cola bottle,” she laughed. “If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s definitely worth trying! I hear you can also make it with ginger beer or lemonade.”

While a few skeptics expressed doubts, some even calling it “disgusting,” the majority of followers responded with curiosity and enthusiasm, with some even saying they’d tried it themselves. There were too.
One person said, “I always use ginger ale and I think it’s similar,” and others agreed. “The ginger ale is the best!” Another confessed, “I’ve never tried the cola, but I might try it!”
“The cola-marinated pork is amazing! It tastes like honey-roasted ham!” another follower shared.
But not everyone sold right away. One cautious commenter said, “I don’t mind trying Coke, but I need to wrap my head around it first.”
Adding to the discussion, other followers shared their own twists. “We use a can of Coke or bourbon,” he said, hinting at a unique flavor profile.
“Next time I’ll definitely try the cola. Dark and sweet is my preference,” declared another avid follower.
“The cola-marinated ribs are delicious too!” someone else suggested.

And for those who thought cooking meat in coke was pure madness, there’s a surprising endorsement from none other than Nigella Lawson herself. The queen of cooking has her own recipe for ham cooked with Coca-Cola.
“The only people who would frown at this idea are people who haven’t tried it,” Lawson says of the recipe. “Don’t hesitate, don’t worry. This really works. Those who cook this won’t cook it just once. It will always earn a place in any repertoire.”
