On Monday, the committee celebrated its 50th anniversary.th Camden County Congregational Nutrition Program Anniversary.
The program began in 1974 and is now a vital resource providing hot meals to approximately 500 seniors five days a week. Camden County provides seniors with transportation to her four meeting places, where they can eat and participate in activities.
“This program has served thousands of residents over the past 50 years, and its impact has been immeasurable,” said Secretary Virginia Betteridge, Department of Health and Human Services liaison. “Tackling food insecurity and social isolation is a top priority for the Commission and we could not have done it without this program. We would like to thank all the staff and partners who have made this program possible. I congratulate them and can’t wait to see how this program develops in the future.”
To address the growing need for meal services, the commission announced the Camden County Community Nutrition Center in November. Her $5 million project was created to expand the county’s growing need for home-delivered meals. Combined, Camden County’s congregate nutrition program and home-delivered meal program serve more than 2,000 customers.
