“I hate the word exercise,” admits Nina Barrow. “I think it’s an immediate cancellation,” she said.However, at 61, Nina is more active than ever, hiking, walking marathons and doing Pilates every week.
Regarding her positive approach to life, Nina says: She says, “I always remind myself that the more I take care of myself on the inside, the more I can do on the outside.” And I have no plans of slowing down anytime soon.
“I’m a high-energy person, so I feel better than ever,” she says, adding, “When I can’t do my weekly routine of walking and Pilates, I really feel the difference. I feel like I’m twitching. I realized that.”
Nina says Pilates and walking are a great combination, explaining that walking gives her energy. “I may feel exhausted or depressed, but going for a walk instantly lifts my spirits and gives me an injection of energy.”

We spoke to the inspiring 61-year-old about why walking is the perfect activity for any age, and everything you need to know to get started. You’ll be sure to lace up your trainers after reading her inspiring take on everyday activities.
1. Walking is the easiest activity
“I don’t like to use the word exercise because I think it’s easy to give up, but I think walking is an easy exercise that anyone can do.
“Everyone has a starting point. It might be walking 500 meters to the local store, but I always say, if you can get outside three times a week, no matter how far you walk, You will understand.”
2. You can feel the difference right away
“If you go out three times a week for two weeks, you’ll definitely feel a difference. Within two weeks you’ll be able to look back and see your progress, whether you’ve walked further or faster.
“Whatever your goal is, you can feel a sense of accomplishment.”
Inspiration: I’m 46 years old and running my first ultramarathon, but I’ve never been a runner.
3. Walking tones your body
“Walking is great for toning. I think walking is the perfect activity because it uses your entire body, works your quads, helps with balance, and actually helps your body become more toned.” Because it feels like.”
4. Feel more confident
“Walking gives me confidence because it makes me feel in control of my body.
“We’ve all gone through periods in our lives when we weren’t as active as we should have been, but walking is so achievable that it gives us confidence to think we’re doing something just for ourselves. You will feel it increasing.”

“You’ll quickly find that your weekly walk is valuable. It gives you your own space and helps you feel more powerful.”

Nina’s walking advice
1. Find time
“I’m better at walking in the morning than in the evening. After I go for a walk early in the morning, no matter what happens the rest of the day, I’m giving myself that time, so it’s really special. I feel like it.
“I love the start of the day because it’s full of promise. When I wake up early, I feel like I’m part of something unique that no one else has ever seen.”

2. Wear appropriate shoes
“The beauty of walking is that you can do it anytime as long as you’re wearing comfortable clothes. But most importantly, wear comfortable shoes.”
3. Team up with friends
“Walking with a friend helps you hold yourself accountable. We all feel demotivated from time to time, but having friends who rely on you to go out with them encourages you to stick to your plan.” And when your friends are feeling low, you can do the same.
