Learn the latest information on dairy nutrition and management by attending the 2024 Four-State Dairy Nutrition and Management Conference on June 5th and 6th at the Grand River Center in Dubuque, Iowa. This premier conference features the latest information to improve your productivity and profits.
Balchem’s pre-conference symposium on the morning of June 5 will focus on amino acid nutrition. Mark Hannigan from Virginia Tech discusses amino bioavailability. Dr. Alex Hristoff from Pennsylvania State will discuss histamine as a limiting amino acid, and Dr. Zhang Li from Ohio State will discuss cow response to lysine. Dr. Jose Santos of Florida will help participants learn about amino acid balance in early lactation cows.
Four state conference speakers, including Michigan’s Dr. Mike VandeHaar, will discuss feeding and managing cattle for high productivity and health. Bill Weiss from The Ohio State University will talk about feeding to reach higher peaks, and Jose Santos will talk about feeding to prevent mineral-related diseases early in lactation.
Another general session will include Dr. Rick Grant of Miner Research Institute who will discuss the optimal ratio of corn silage and alfalfa:grass in dairy feeds. Alex Hristiv discussed how feeding strategies can reduce milk’s carbon footprint, and Dr. Luiz Ferraretto from the University of Wisconsin discussed how various physical and chemical properties of feed affect ration performance. Also on Wednesday will be the second edition of the 3-Minute Student Paper (3MT) Contest with Poster. Master’s and PhD students from the four partner schools will present posters and give three-minute presentations on the research they have completed.
At Purdue’s post-conference symposium on the afternoon of June 6, Dr. Jeffrey Zanton of the USDA Dairy Cattle Feed Research Center will speak on the latest research on dairy cow response to protein and amino acid supplementation. Dr. Kane Herbertine of Pennsylvania State University discusses the importance of de novo fatty acids in promoting milk fat synthesis, and Dr. Adam Locke of Michigan State University provides insight into the importance of preformed fatty acids in promoting milk fat synthesis To do.
