Community Champion: Winter Park Health Foundation
This nonprofit organization has been instrumental in improving the health of Winter Park, Maitland, and Eatonville.
Transforming their health is a big reason why our Community Champions work. This week it’s the Winter Park Health Foundation. You just celebrated your birthday. Yeah, exactly 100, right? How does it feel to come out as a 100-year-old? I feel lucky to be so healthy. I will be 63 years old. I think this is the perfect place to start your journey. If you do, decide to change your lifestyle. Esther Ryan and Janet Reardon are gaining vitality and energy with support from the Winter Park Health Foundation. Our goal is to build healthy communities. Honestly, our goal is to build the healthiest community. period. Patti Maddox has led the nonprofit organization to support residents of Winter Park, Maitland, and Eatonville since its founding 30 years ago. The way we approach it is by working with everyone around us to find them. These intersect with where we can assist other not-for-profit organizations, individuals, to find ways that we can provide programs that are beneficial to the community. Its flagship program is the Youth Collaboration Initiative, which has worked with 15 public schools since 1997 to provide mental health counseling and nursing services. We feel that the difference in their academic performance, and therefore their presenteeism in the classroom, is that teachers say that classroom problems are more manageable. The nonprofit has invested millions of dollars through community grants to support health initiatives with local partners. This year marks our company’s 30th anniversary. The Winter Park Health Foundation has committed more than $131 million to not-for-profit initiatives in all types of health in our region, but the Foundation does more than just provide funding. This building has a lot of different things to convey the message that health should be a priority. The Health and Wellness Center offers a wealth of resources, including a fitness center, educational programs, cooking classes, a cafe, medical offices, and community spaces for connection. Of course, going to the doctor isn’t free, and neither is joining a health club. We have many educational programs, most of which are free and available to those who come in person, but many of which are also available online. We have a chance to come here and get to know this place. You’ll love it! Investing in a healthier future for Central Florida has made Winter Park Health Foundation a Wesh Two Community Champion. I think the idea of establishing community really resonates throughout our history. That means we’ve worked hard to make sure people feel like their health is a top priority and that we need to work together to get there. Patti Maddox, President and CEO of Winter Park Health Foundation, is now live with us in the studio. What do you feel when you look at what we’ve been able to accomplish in 30 years? In fact, we were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and work with an amazing group of people to help us achieve our goals. I feel incredibly grateful to have been able to create something that will be such a wonderful gift to our community. Yes, and we want to let you know that you will be stepping down after his 30th year, but we would like to thank you this morning for the work you have done to build our community. I would like to express my gratitude. Better. Patty. thank you. It was a great gift to me. yeah yeah. What a legacy! You know, the lives you’ve touched, from the young to the young at heart. You guys want to continue to give back like we saw 100 year old Esther and Patti there. This big challenge awaits. 2024. Now, let’s award grants together. Please tell me what this is all about. And the focus of this. Now, this grant award is in celebration of our 30th anniversary. And on our anniversary, organizations like ours want to give gifts to their communities instead of receiving gifts. Because our gift is all the good that comes from our community through our work. So the Well Together Grants challenge is her $30,000 prize to be given to 30 or 300 people. Sorry, 300,000. I’m thinking about 300,000 yen for 30 years. You know, you’re doing you. Yeah. That’s 300,000. Therefore, five different organizations will compete with other applications to win the $50,000 prize. But that’s only part one. Yeah. The five girls then undergo storytelling training to learn how to better tell their stories. oh. Then they come together and a special event is held. On October 11th, we will decide who will be the winner. A little special, a special kind of winner will be decided. I love it. Patty doesn’t tell me much about this, but I love it. Therefore, applications are currently being accepted. You can apply from now until next Wednesday. right? until the 15th, and her deadline is May 15th. All completed online. Featured on our website WPBF. organization. If you forget what that is, it’s the Winter Park Health Foundation at Initials.org. Then, please submit your application. Yeah, it’s going to be great. Several local organizations will really benefit from your work. Patty experience for 30 years. Thank you very much. And we want people to get involved with the Winter Park Health Foundation.
