Looking forward to the summer boost program
29 school districts will participate in this year’s Summer Boost: Reading and Math program. This program is a partnership between the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), the Summer Food Service Program, and the Children’s Reading Foundation. The Summer Boost program is designed to motivate and remind families to read for 20 minutes each day, and to encourage families to get into reading and math by distributing free books and fun items like wristbands, bookmarks, and magnets. encourage participation.
Approximately 1,000 books will be delivered to each participating district and distributed at the meal venue. Wayne County is one of 29 other school districts receiving the summer boost program. Families interested in having their children participate should contact the Wayne County Local Summer Food Service Department for more information. Meal service locations in Wayne County are currently being determined and will be announced soon.
Summer Boost Coordinators will also direct families to KDE’s online summer support webpage, which is available to all families in Kentucky. Our Summer Support webpage provides information and resources to encourage students and families to make learning a part of their summer routines.
