The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office is increasing mental health support for members through a new proactive wellness platform.
Recognizing the importance of fostering a culture of support and open dialogue regarding mental health, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office has made the decision to explore proactive health solutions for our members.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office introduced PeerConnect on May 1, 2024.
Behavioral health issues among first responders have become a commonly discussed topic in recent years, as efforts are being made to address the concerns first responders feel when discussing mental health issues.
A study conducted by the University of Phoenix suggests that many first responders do not feel like their workplace is a safe place to discuss mental health, but the study also found that others around them were willing to help. We also found that first responders may be more willing to seek help if they do so. Discuss mental health.
The PeerConnect system takes a step forward in how organizations can engage and support their employees with the conversations they need, when they need it most.
PeerConnect provides private and anonymous support from your mobile phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, when first responders need it.
Any member using the system can create their own trusted peer support team of trained peers to provide support.
PeerConnect users can request contact information at any time and will be connected with one of their preferred peer support team members.
This choice can make a huge difference in the comfort level of first responders seeking help.
“This proactive platform works to ensure that no member of the Sheriff’s Office fails, reduces the stigma surrounding mental health, and normalizes conversations about mental health.
There is no shame in talking about the challenges we face, but rather proactive measures to improve the health of all of our members,” said Detective Robin M. May of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office. Ta.
“Trust and stigma are often at issue in mental health situations. Our unique process allows users to choose who they feel comfortable contacting and create their own personal support team long before trauma occurs. The goal is to ensure that no member faces a difficult situation alone,” said Kevin Cucta, CEO of First Response Mental Health.
