Burger season is approaching. If you’re like us, you are too. I can’t wait another second Let’s go outside and grill! Practice making Ina Garten-style burgers for your next backyard barbecue. Barefoot Contessa shares her simple secret for turning a “good burger into a great burger.” Our mouths are already full of saliva.
In a video posted to Food Network’s YouTube channel, Garten shows how to make the Niman Ranch Burger. Garten recommends using great ingredients to “boost the flavor” of your burgers. First, prepare the ground beef by adding liquid ingredients such as olive oil and spices, then mix it gently with a fork. Roll the burgers a third of a pound at a time to form patties. She keeps the raw meat in the fridge to cool while she makes her secret ingredient, caramelized onions.
“If there’s one thing that can turn a good burger into a really great burger, it’s a generous pile of caramelized onions on top,” Garten reveals. My favorite is caramelized onions, but for some reason a lot of people use thickly sliced raw onions. We trust you in Ina, right?
She sautes thinly sliced onions in a pan with butter and other ingredients. As she mixes it up, she admires its simplicity. “It’s a simple process and you get something really delicious!” Garten adds a few more ingredients and mixes it all together again.
Now it’s time to grill! When placing burgers on a beachside grill, Garten recommends not pressing them to avoid spoiling the juices. She bakes English muffins for the buns, heats caramelized onions, and assembles everything.
“I love authentic burgers,” one person commented. “What a great idea! Thank you!” wrote another.
Cookbook authors have suggested various ways to try burgers over the years, including smash hamburgers and blue cheese burgers. This one with caramelized onions looks just as delicious as the others!
