best chef Contestant Danny Garcia has come under fire after allegedly “stealing” a recipe for scallop choux farci from his former employer Victoria Blamey.
The executive chef at Saga Hospitality Group faced serious backlash after sharing the episode-winning dish on his Instagram page earlier this week.
“This is exactly the same food @victoriablamey served at Mena in 2022,” one user commented on his post, referring to Blamey’s now-closed New York City restaurant Mena. “By the way, this is the dish that critics fell over backwards to save their seats. This seems like a blatant rip-off. I mean, it literally looks exactly the same!”
“What do you mean? This is a direct reference to a dish from @victoriablamey’s restaurant @menarestaurantnyc,” another user countered. “There’s a difference between inspiration and straight-up stealing, and this is the latter. What a boring, unoriginal, lazy way to be.” Fully displaying your own creativity as a chef in public. What damages it. ”
Others claimed the recipe was “stolen from Victoria Blamey” and “not yours.”
Victoria Blamey declined to comment for this article, but posted her own statement on her Instagram Stories, re-sharing many of her fans’ reactions to the controversy.
“This dish was created when I opened Mena between 2021 and 2022… Ask someone to copy the exact same dish and win best chef “This is not only a lack of morals and professionalism, but sad proof of how little creative guts this person has of his own,” she wrote, adding, “@Bravotopchef needs more I was surprised that they weren’t doing better research.”
Garcia served as her sous chef when she first opened Mena in 2022. Several Reddit users discussed the two’s shared history, with some calling it a “chaotic” plagiarism of his former boss. “If he had given credit to his boss, this problem wouldn’t have happened,” one said.
Now, the real question is whether Garcia’s actions were actually forgivable. What are the show rules?

Danny Garcia did not respond to Delish’s request for comment.
