When mercury rises, our bodies often struggle to cope with intense heat, causing symptoms such as fatigue, dehydration, headaches, and heat rash. These symptoms can affect your health in many ways, so you should take every step to reduce the effects of heatstroke.

Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine, can help combat heat exhaustion. Speaking to the Onlymyhealth team, Dr. Ganesh Chaudhary, Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery, PHC, Darbhanga, Biharstates, “Certain Ayurvedic herbs are revered for their cooling properties and ability to help the body endure the summer heat.” He introduced his 5 Ayurvedic herbs that effectively deal with heat stroke and keep you refreshed and energized during the hot season.

Amla

“Amla, also known as Indian gooseberry, is a treasure trove of vitamin C and antioxidants. Its cooling properties help lower body temperature and boost immunity,” said Dr Chaudhary. “To experience rejuvenating effects, consume fresh amla juice or incorporate dried amla powder into your diet,” he recommends.

Additionally, Japanese research has also found that amla supports digestion, which may be especially beneficial in the summer when digestive issues are more likely.

mint

Mint is well known as a cooling and refreshing herb. “It contains menthol, which provides instant relief from heat-related discomforts such as headaches and nausea,” Dr. Chaudhary said. He recommended steeping fresh mint leaves in boiling water to make a soothing mint tea, or adding them to salads and drinks for a cooling kick.

According to a study published in the Journal of Pain Research, mint aids in digestion and also has calming effects.

coriander

Coriander is not only a flavorful herb, but also a cooling herb. Dr Chaudhary says, “The seeds and leaves have a cooling effect on the body, making them a valuable ally against heat stroke.” Soaking coriander seeds overnight and eating them in the morning can help cool your body internally. ”

Fennel

Fennel tea is also a refreshing option to keep you cool and hydrated on a hot day. Fennel seeds are known for their cooling and digestive properties. “They help reduce body heat and reduce symptoms such as bloating and indigestion. Chewing a few fennel seeds after meals can aid digestion and prevent heat-related discomfort,” says Dr. Chaudhary. said.

sandalwood

Dr. Chaudhary says sandalwood is a prized herb in Ayurveda, especially for its cooling and soothing effects on the skin. “Applying sandalwood paste on your body can help lower your body temperature and relieve heat rash and inflammation,” Dr. Chaudhary said. He also recommends adding a few drops of sandalwood essential oil to your bath to help you feel relaxed and cool.

Dr. Chaudhary concludes that incorporating these five Ayurvedic herbs into your daily routine will significantly improve your resilience to summer fatigue and promote overall health during the summer months. Always consult an Ayurvedic practitioner or health care professional before incorporating new herbs into your diet, especially if you have a pre-existing health condition or are pregnant. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and enjoy a strong and healthy summer!
