Unity’s SHA medical experts held a wellness fair for anyone who had questions about a variety of topics.
UNITY – A variety of services within the Unity Health Center came together for the first Saskatchewan Health Authority Community Wellness Fair on April 18th. Experts from 10 different services were on hand to answer any questions the public may have.
Courtney Lewis, a physical therapist who helped organize the fair, said there was a lot of positive feedback from the community.
“Visitors commented that they were able to learn something new from each expert. Many were surprised at how much they could do there, too, such as checking their immunization records,” Lewis said. he said.
Services offered at the exhibition include physical therapists, occupational therapists, community mental health, community nutritionists, diabetes nurse educators, home care, volunteer services, EMS, public health and autism services. Some experts were not available but had information for the public.
Approximately 35 people participated in the first Wellness Fair. Visitors were welcome to come and go throughout the day and receive one-on-one advice and information about the services available within the community. Each department had information for visitors of all ages to take home. Registered dietitian Chelsea Zieni and the Department of Public Health provided fun activities for the children who visited with her parents and guardians.
A similar event was held at Parkview Place in March, but this event was for SHA services only. Unity Health Center newcomers include girlfriend Reigan Gallais of Autism Services and registered nurse Lauren Reschny of Home Care.
Lewis said there is a good chance more wellness fairs will be held in the future.
“We are still thinking about what future fairs will look like and how we can best serve our community,” she added.
Additionally, she said her future goal is to hold a fair several times a year where community members can ask questions, find out about upcoming education and volunteer opportunities, and become an active part of their health care journey. he added.
