The Ozark Breast Cancer Foundation, in partnership with the Lewis L. and Julia Dorothy Coover Charitable Foundation and the Commerce Trust, received a $13,017 grant on April 30 from the Ozark Area Community Foundation.
This grant will allow BCFO to partner with Burrell Behavioral Health’s Be Well Initiatives to provide wellness events to breast cancer survivors and their caregivers in the Branson and Joplin areas.
“At BCFO, we have seen over the last few years that our clients increasingly need not only real financial support, but also more emotional support,” says BCFO’s Megan Garvey. “Being able to connect with someone who’s been through what you’ve been through really helps the healing process.”
Through the Coover Region Vibrant Communities Grants Program, a total of $220,000 was awarded to 14 nonprofit organizations to address the epidemic of loneliness and social isolation by creating meaningful ways to bring people and communities together. Julia Dorothy Coover, who worked for Commerce for 30 years, established the Louis L. and Julia Dorothy Coover Charitable Foundation in 1992 in memory of her husband. The private foundation, managed by Commerce Trust, has awarded nearly $8 million in grants to benefit rural communities throughout CFO’s service area since the partnership began in 2001.
In early April, the Coover Foundation, Commerce Trust, and CFO awarded $80,000 to 18 local school districts in the Coover/Rural School Partnership Grant Program.
