Sanaa, April 29, 2024– The UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has donated £25 million to UNICEF Yemen to improve health and nutrition outcomes for children and women in Yemen through a multi-sectoral response.
The donation will enable UNICEF to strengthen primary health care (PHC) and community health systems (CHS) through the delivery of an integrated service package that includes health, nutrition, water, hygiene and hygiene promotion, mental health and psychosocial support. It will look like this.
To strengthen primary health facilities, UNICEF will improve the skills and knowledge of health workers and community health and nutrition workers through capacity-building interventions, as well as provide operational support such as vaccines, medicines and midwifery kits, and life-saving health and nutrition services. Provide nutritional supplies and equipment. .
UNICEF will also strengthen quality referral care to reduce maternal and child morbidity and mortality, strengthen institutional capacity to manage health systems in the areas of governance, data and supply chain systems, and improve access. It will also work on repairing/expanding water systems/services for the purpose of the project. Towards safe drinking water.

Nine years after the conflict, Yemen remains one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, with 18.2 million people, including 9.8 million children, in need of life-saving humanitarian assistance. More than 17.8 million people in the country lack adequate access to health services, and only 70 percent of health facilities are partially or fully functional.
