John Lennon’s widow and son have unveiled a new way to meditate with nine different versions of the former Beatle’s 1973 song ‘Mind Games’.
The music is available through the Luminate phone app in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month. The tracklist (available below) includes the 5-minute Beta wave-powered “Spirit” and the 33-minute “Peace.” Other tracks utilize gamma, delta, and theta waves with binaural effects.
“The Luminate app uses a flashlight on the back of a smartphone to shine light into a person’s closed eyes at a research-based frequency, neurologically inducing a state of consciousness somewhere between deep meditation and psychedelics.” Read the statement posted on John Lennon’s website.

“Each of the nine meditation mixes is combined with a unique, deeply immersive light sequence with carefully selected flicker frequencies to match the mind- and mood-altering sounds. These singular, mind-altering sequences Enhances the musical journey, deepens the sense of relaxation and allows users to see, hear and feel music like never before.
A number of processing techniques were applied to the original 2-inch master tapes, with the addition of “additional instrumentation” by producer Sean Ono-Lennon. He said: “I think our mind game projects are fun, meaningful, and potentially expand your thinking.
“I have been using the Lumenate app for personal meditation since its launch and have had many profound experiences.
“My father was famously obsessed with meditation. I remember trying out the ‘flicker machine’ he had in his bedroom. That first introduced me to the idea of stroboscopic EEG guidance. I thought it made sense to combine the music from Mind Games with the science from Lumenate. I really hope people enjoy the results as much as I do. ”
Yoko Ono added: “John was trying to get the message across that we all play mind games. But if you can play mind games, use it to create a positive future and play positive mind games. Would you like to try it?
“‘Mind Games’ is an incredibly powerful song. At the time, people didn’t fully understand its message, but now people will. I don’t think they realized they were playing mind games.”
