May has always been a special month, the month that the Church dedicates to the Virgin Mary, Mother of God and Our Mother.
The month that begins today is a time for all of us who have been baptized to confess our love for the woman God has chosen from eternity to be the earthly mother of His Son, Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh. It’s the right time. For the salvation of humanity.
How can we not look at her as she looks at us with tenderness and compassion? It is no coincidence that the Son of God wanted to grow up in the warmth of a mother like Mary and receive her loving care.
Let’s live close to Mary this month too.
The Virgin Mary has a special place in the plan of salvation. By virtue of her role in God’s election to be the mother of the Son of God, she was conceived immaculately, that is, without the stain of original sin, and by her faithfulness to her Son entered heaven. She took the throne as the Queen of the Earth.
Everything Mary says and does is connected to Christ. Who knows a child better than a mother? What good and noble child does not know his mother and do not love her with all his heart?
It would be a little foolish, or very foolish, not to be embraced by that loving mother that Jesus gave us. So why not take the time to get to know Jesus better than anyone else on earth, to get to know the girl she loved better, and to improve her relationship with her girlfriend? And what she must not forget is that she loves her children, each human being, with the same affection and tenderness.
The Church, in the wisdom of Our Lady, asks children during this month to be especially devoted to the Virgin Mary and to be especially grateful for all her care.
Be an example for all Christians
Another aspect to consider and meditate on is that Mary, the humblest of all women, is an example for all today and here and now. As Pope Francis expressed it, she is a special model for each woman.
“Your model is only one, Mary, a faithful woman, a woman who obeyed without understanding what was happening to her. As soon as she found out what her cousin needed (to help her) ) departed from Our Lady of Agility, who fled to a foreign country as a refugee to save the life of her son,” Pope Francis told the crowd of 20,000 people who gathered in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Community Youth Day in April 2014. He said this in a message addressed to young people.

Years later, in his catechesis on August 24, 2021, Pope Francis called Mary “the first disciple of Jesus” and said, “Mary is there to pray for us and for those who do not pray.” We pray. Why? Because she is our mother.”
Our Lady brought heaven closer to us through Jesus. Her life is the best proof that it is possible for her to reach heaven. Pope Francis said it best: “She said that if we also do not succumb to sin, if we humbly praise God and serve others generously, then heaven is within our reach.” ” (Pope Francis, Angelus Address on the Solemnity of the Assumption, August 15, 2022).
May is a holy month for everyone! Let’s walk hand in hand with Mary.
