New Grace United Methodist Church recently celebrated its 19th anniversary with a dynamic Wellness Day on March 16, 2024. This momentous event not only marked a milestone for the church, but also provided an opportunity for the faithful and members of the broader community to come together in joy. Festival.
In line with the ministry’s focus on the five dimensions of wellness, the Wellness Day aimed to foster the mental, physical, social and spiritual health of participants.
The day began with registration at 7 a.m., and eager participants gathered to get the festivities underway. At 8am, the event began with an exhilarating walk that symbolized unity and friendship among participants. A police escort ensured the safety of all participants along the route and enhanced the overall experience.
Various activities were planned throughout the day to engage participants and promote overall well-being. One of her highlights was a dynamic fitness session led by Nyla T. Govan, a recent graduate of Claflin University’s Department of Human Performance and Recreation. Nyla brought her expertise and passion for health and fitness to the event, energizing and uplifting attendees.
The event was further energized by the high-spirited performance of the Lowcountry Scootin’ Boots Line Dancers from Walterboro, South Carolina, who got everyone moving and having a blast.
As the event progressed, participants were provided with a wide range of nutritious snacks, salads, fruits, and refreshing beverages to keep them energized and rejuvenated.
Participants were then recognized for their participation and awards were given out in different age categories. Door prizes added an element of excitement to the day, and a Bible trivia session led by Pastor McLeod provided spiritual enrichment for all.
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the opportunity to bond and support each other on their health journeys. Looking ahead, New Grace UMC is already planning its next Wellness Day, scheduled for September 21, 2024.
