HYDERABAD: In a fresh crackdown, the Drug Control Authority (DCA) has seized three types of Ayurvedic medicines with false claims, namely overpriced medicines. The raids took place on Monday and Tuesday. Among the Ayurvedic medicines seized were drugs (ortho-joint oil) that claim to treat rheumatism and paralysis. A drug (PCOD uterine capsule) that claims to treat menorrhagia, uterine bleeding, and dysmenorrhea (menstrual pain). And another drug (Obekar capsules) that claims to treat obesity. The Drugs and Magical Remedies (Offensive Advertisement) Act of 1954 prohibits advertising of certain medicines intended to treat some diseases and disorders, officials said. Under the law, anyone who publishes misleading advertisements about medicines is subject to imprisonment, fines, or both, officials said. At a joint stock company located on Road No. 12 in Banjara Hills, DCA officials discovered a huge amount of illegal stock of medicines. Fifteen types of medicines were found to be stocked for sale, including Botox injections, epinephrine, local anesthetics, vitamins and some intravenous fluids. Authorities seized shares worth Rs 40,000 crore during the raid. The DCA also raided two dispensaries in Patancheru’s Pashamilaram village and Seringampally and seized illegally stored drugs.
