Partnership with Northport provides free acupuncture to cancer patients

NORTHPORT, N.Y. — Healing Space and the Chloe Bell Foundation, both based in Northport, are partnering to provide free acupuncture sessions to cancer patients and survivors supported by the foundation.

Sheila Gordon is a licensed acupuncturist with a Master of Arts in Oriental Medicine (L.Ac, MSOM) and founded The Healing Space at 81 Scudder Avenue in 2003. She Gordon offers acupuncture, fertility support, tuning fork therapy, LED therapy, and facial therapy. She does rejuvenation, cupping, moxibustion, etc.

Chloe Bell Foundation donors, Long Island residents or those willing to travel will receive an acupuncture session.

The Chloe Bell Foundation was established by Remi Lindberg and her family in memory of Chloe Lindberg of Northport. She passed away from acute myeloid leukemia in January 2021, aged just 26 at the time. She battled cancer for 13 months after she was diagnosed at age 25. .

Gordon said acupuncture can bring a sense of calm to anyone. It’s been shown to lower cortisol levels, calm the vagus nerve and increase endorphins, “the feel-good hormones,” Gordon said.

Acupuncture is even more beneficial for people who are fighting or recovering from cancer.

“My approach in my practice is to treat the whole person: physically, emotionally and spiritually,” Gordon told Patch. “People are often in shock when they receive a diagnosis. My job is to treat that shock by calming the nervous system, but acupuncture can help reduce the side effects a person may experience during chemotherapy. Great for dealing with things like bloating, nausea, fatigue, and brain fog.”

Lindberg said the Chloe Bell Foundation is currently supporting 20 recipients. The nonprofit organization continues to work with hospitals in the Capital Region, and hundreds of people have received donations from the foundation’s donors.

Mr Gordon said cancer patients deserve support and healing and wanted to offer them the benefit of tailored treatment. She begins the session with her prayers and intentions, and the patient lets Gordon know what to focus on.

“The benefit of acupuncture is that it can address multiple issues at once,” she said.

The free acupuncture sessions were all Gordon’s idea, Lindberg said.

“Sheila is not only a talented practitioner, but also very creative in thinking of unique ways to expand her business offering,” she said. “When you add in the fact that she’s one of the most kind-hearted, philanthropic and empathetic people I know, I think you get this partnership. On a friendship level, she’s been very supportive of everything from day one. “She goes above and beyond for everything.” She told all her friends how to expand TCBF and any way they could help. I’m always thinking about it. ”

Gordon said he was “amazed” by Lindbergh’s dedication to helping people affected by cancer after losing Chloe’s sister and best friend.

“Remi is an inspiration to others,” Gordon said. “Her ability to empathize and help others while recovering from loss is a true reminder of what it means to be human. Service is an antidote to anxiety and pain, and Remi inspires others through her pain. I found a way to help.”

The Chloe Bell Foundation has organized several toy sales for children and young people in hospitals, funded research at Southern Ocean Medical Center in New Jersey, and raised funds for other charities. I have collected.

Lindberg said acupuncture, which involves inserting needles, is recommended for children ages 8 and older. For younger children, there are techniques that do not use needles.

“Sheila’s presence and personal energy are calming,” Campbell said. “She’s never felt so relaxed as she does on her table. And her needles don’t hurt at all. You can barely feel them.”

Lindbergh said she is “very grateful” for Gordon’s partnership.

Gordon has worked with famous athletes and celebrities and has appeared on television shows such as “Good Morning America.”

“We are so honored that she has brought TCBF into her space,” Lindberg said. “Seeing Sheila work so hard and support people at the lowest points in their lives was an inspiration to me. Now I want to provide support to people who are struggling.

The Chloe Bell Foundation currently supports people who have been diagnosed with cancer or who are grieving a loved one who has died from cancer. Lindberg said it could expand in the future.

Kelly Campbell is a client of Gordon’s who receives acupuncture during chemotherapy.
