A dermatologist shares four anti-aging ingredients she swears by.
Powerful moisturizers are essential to her skincare routine, helping to nourish and retain moisture.
Dr. Michelle Green, a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist in New York City, shared her anti-aging tips and tricks with The US Sun.
She explained that retinol is essential for anti-aging.
“Retinol is an incredible anti-aging ingredient that has been used to treat skin aging for decades,” she said.
“Retinol is a vitamin A derivative that exfoliates the skin and increases the metabolic rate of skin cells, making way for new, healthy cells.”
This powerful compound also helps smooth fine lines and wrinkles, minimize enlarged pores, and increase production of collagen and elastin, important proteins that plump the skin.
Experts also urged skincare enthusiasts to add the antioxidant vitamin C to their daily routines.
In addition to protecting skin from UV damage, oxidative stress, and free radical damage, vitamin C can help correct signs of aging, brighten skin, aid cell repair, and reduce inflammation, she says. explained.
A key step in any anti-aging routine is keeping your skin hydrated, and Green revealed that she relies on hyaluronic acid and ceramides to do the heavy lifting.

“Hyaluronic acid is a humectant that attracts moisture from the environment to the skin,” she said.
“Hyaluronic acid is extremely powerful and can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water.
She says the ingredient is found in many different types of products, from cosmetics to various cleansers, serums, moisturizers, and sunscreens.
Ceramides not only hydrate the skin, but also help repair damaged skin barriers, she added.
“Ceramides are lipids or fats found in the outer layer of the skin that help protect the skin from environmental damage by forming a moisture barrier on the skin,” she explained.
“Ceramides in cleansers and moisturizers are great for keeping skin hydrated and plump, and effectively reducing fine lines and wrinkles.”

Mr. Green also emphasized the importance of using sunscreen daily to combat premature skin aging.
She explained that the most effective and affordable anti-aging treatment is to limit exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays.
“The sun is one of the biggest causes of premature aging and the development of wrinkles, fine lines, and sunspots, so sunscreen is an essential part of your daily anti-aging routine,” she said.
Exposure to UV rays without sunscreen can accelerate the aging process and damage your skin’s natural abilities.
“Sun damage can also inhibit collagen production and reduce skin elasticity,” she added.
Experts urged everyone to wear sunscreen even on days when they don’t think it’s necessary.
“For maximum protection, you need a broad-spectrum sunscreen.
“You should apply SPF 50 or higher every day, even on days when the sun isn’t out,” she said.
He explained that even on rainy, cold, or cloudy days, UV rays are stronger than you think.
“Ultraviolet light can pass through clouds and windows and reflect off snow and rain puddles,” she added.
