Congratulations to two graduate students working in the lab of Dr. Rafael Neves, Assistant Professor of Food Animal Outpatient Medicine, after they received awards at the recent Tri-State Dairy Nutrition Conference. His annual three-day event, held in Fort Wayne, Indiana, is a collaborative effort of Purdue University, Michigan State University, The Ohio State University, and related dairy industries.
As part of the Student Presentation Showcase on Monday, April 15, graduate students from Purdue, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, and the University of Wisconsin will compete for prizes up to $2,250 in the master’s and doctoral categories. Ta.
Gillian Grants I won first place in the oral competition in the MS category for my presentation titled “Evaluation of plasma oxylipin and endocannabinoid profiles and platelet and plasma proteome in postpartum dairy cows experiencing increased systemic inflammation.”
Natnitya Techachokevivat I won second place in the PhD student oral competition for my presentation titled “Epidemiology of systemic inflammation: first week postpartum plasma haptoglobin and its association with disease and milk yield in Holstein cows.”
Jillian and Natnicha competed against students from MSU, OSU, Penn State, and Purdue University to win awards in their respective categories. “I couldn’t be more proud of them,” said Dr. Neves.
The Tri-State Dairy Nutrition Conference is primarily intended for individuals who provide nutritional advice to dairy farmers. Attendees include feed industry personnel, nutritional consultants, university faculty, students, extension agents, veterinarians, and more.
