Carpentersville hosts Mental Health Awareness Month events in May

Carpentersville will host two events in May for Mental Health Awareness Month.

The Elgin Family Services Association will host a 100-meter run for kids on Saturday, May 4, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a 100-meter run at Raceway Woods, 645 N. Western Ave., at 10 a.m., according to the nonprofit organization. Carpentersville) will host a 5km run and walk. Website.

Admission is free, but T-shirts are available for purchase for $15 in advance and $25 at the door. Proceeds will benefit mental health advocacy efforts.

The second event will be an all-you-can-eat breakfast of pancakes, sausage and drinks on Friday, May 10 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Rakow Adult Activity Center, 665 Barrington Avenue.

It is sponsored by the Carpentersville Police and Fire Department and the Dundee Township Park District.

Breakfast is $5, cash only, payable on the day of the event. Proceeds will benefit Illinois Firefighters Peer Support and the Illinois 100 Club.

Hanover Township’s 9th annual “Sprint 2 Spring” event goes 5 kilometers away on May 4

Registration for Hanover Township’s 9th annual “Sprint 2 Spring” 5K Run/Walk will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at the Hanover Township Isaac Walton Youth Center, 899 Jay St., Elgin.

The race raises funds for the Hanover Township Foundation, which promotes health and wellness in the community and helps low-income residents access dental and medical services, according to a news release from the township.

Participants will follow a course through Elgin streets east of Liberty Street and south of Villa Street. The post-race party will have drinks and snacks, music, games and a bounce house for the kids.

Registration is $35 through Friday, May 3rd and $40 on race day.

CASA Kane County hosts 1st Annual Countryside Craze Sports Tournament

CASA Kane County will hold its first Countryside Craze Sports Tournament and Fundraiser on Sunday, May 19th from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the St. Charles Sportsman’s Club, 44W471 Keslinger Road in Elburn.

Tickets are $125 per person, according to a news release. This includes a BBQ his lunch from Luck Masters. 50 sporting clay targets and ammunition. Event T-shirt. Two raffle tickets and an awards ceremony. We do not rent guns.

CASA Kane County is a nonprofit organization that trains and supervises Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers who advocate for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse and neglect.

Old time radio expert Steve Darnall, host of the radio show “Back in the Days,” will be presenting Chicago’s early radio show Wednesday, May 8th at 1 p.m. at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave. I’m going to talk about the importance.

“The Windy City on the Air” focuses on how Chicago was a major radio center in the medium’s early years.

During his presentation, Darnall will discuss Chicago’s many groundbreaking contributions to radio, including soap operas, the juvenile adventure series, early morning radio shows, and local legends who became national sensations.
