A dermatologist talks about the biggest mistakes people make when it comes to anti-aging.
She explained that many beauty fans ignore rain puddles and snow, inadvertently making them look older.
Dr. Michelle Green, a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist in New York City, shares her anti-aging tips with The US Sun.
She said the most affordable anti-aging treatment is daily sunscreen use.
“The sun is one of the biggest causes of premature aging and the development of wrinkles, fine lines, and sunspots, so sunscreen is an essential part of your daily anti-aging routine,” she explained.
“Sun damage can also inhibit collagen production and reduce skin elasticity.”
One misconception Greene pointed out is that sunscreen should only be worn on hot, sunny days.
Experts stressed that anyone who takes the appearance and health of their skin seriously should wear sunscreen no matter the weather.
“For maximum protection, you need a broad-spectrum sunscreen.
“You should apply SPF 50 or higher every day, even on days when the sun isn’t out,” she said.
“Ultraviolet light can pass through clouds and windows and reflect off snow and rain puddles.”

Another common misconception is that good anti-aging treatments cost a lot of money, Green added.
Instead of spending big bucks on high-end skincare, she urged beauty enthusiasts to focus on the ingredient list.
“It’s important to look for active ingredients that have been clinically studied and proven to serve specific skin purposes,” she said.
“An anti-aging skin care routine doesn’t have to be complicated with a million different products.”
A basic anti-aging skin care routine should include a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and broad-spectrum sunscreen.
The serums and treatment products you use on a daily basis should be selected according to your specific skin concerns.
For maximum protection, you should apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 50 or higher every day, even on days when the sun isn’t out.

”[It] It should contain ingredients like peptides, antioxidants, and retinol to address anti-aging skin concerns like fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, and dullness,” she said.
Mr. Green also emphasized the importance of inner health, which cannot be compensated for by any product or treatment.
She said some of the simplest techniques for anti-aging, like eating a balanced diet and getting enough sleep, don’t even require you to go shopping.
“Sleep allows the body to repair cells, replacing dead cells with new, healthy ones,” Green explained.
“Lack of sleep not only impairs this process, but also accelerates the breakdown of collagen and elastin fibers in the skin, accelerating premature aging and leading to the development of dark circles under the eyes.”
Circles, fine lines, dull skin.
“Maintaining a healthy diet is very important for skin health.
A diet rich in sugar can worsen skin conditions such as acne and eczema, damage collagen fibers, and cause skin to sag.
“A balanced diet rich in protein, leafy greens, and healthy fats supports healthy, glowing skin.”
Experts recommended eating antioxidant-rich foods such as strawberries, dates, and avocados to reduce stress and free radical damage to the skin.
