(CNN) — Padma Lakshmi is undoubtedly beautiful, but more importantly, she wants to be appreciated for her humor.
Last year, she announced she would step down as host of the cooking competition “Top Chef,” but the author and producer’s next move may surprise fans.
In an interview with The New Yorker, Lakshmi revealed that she is developing a comedy series with “Bridesmaids” director Paul Feig, and that she will produce and star in the series.
She is a regular at the Comedy Cellar, a famous comedy club in New York, and says, “Comedy attracts me in the same way that I’m attracted to witty men. It’s all about how you want to spend your time.” .”
According to the story, “Lakshmi came to see comedy as potentially more than just a hobby.”
She made a cameo appearance on “Saturday Night Live” and received positive reviews, so she is eager to return as host. Lakshmi also takes classes at comedy school Upright Citizens Brigade.
Most recently, she collaborated with Phoebe Robinson, Michelle Buteau, and Jaboukie Young-White, hosting and performing in the sold-out curated show Padma Puts on a Comedy Show.
“I’m starting from scratch. I’m not doing it on Instagram because it would ruin my career in an instant,” Lakshmi said. “But I’m learning how to be more wild, quirky, and funnier among my friends and in safe spaces.”
