Jamila Page learned her love for helping others from an early age through her father. “I wanted to be a psychologist…I remember one day my father let me act like a therapist. That was a very important moment for me. It was definitely It inspired us, especially me, to take part in this work.”

Ms. Page is currently a Registered Dietitian (RDN) with a Ph.D. A Fresh Page (AFP ), LLC has been established. It addresses health disparities, food insecurity, nutrition, and other public health concerns among low-income populations.

“We work with farmers and community foundations. We work with local churches to help them get nutrition and health education. We work with farmers and community foundations to help them get nutrition and health education. But we want to bridge that gap as much as possible,” says founder and CEO Jamila, 29. Hadiya, 26, is the public health media coordinator for the one-year-old company.

Over the past year, the sisters have hosted virtual workshops and cook-a-longs through their company. These workshops can be booked by churches, businesses, and other groups looking to improve their cooking skills and find healthier solutions.

The sisters are graduates of Ramsey High School in Birmingham. Jamila she graduated in 2012 and Hadiya she graduated in 2015 as a member of the 1st International Baccalaureate class.

Jamila earned a Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition/Nutrition from Tuskegee University and pursued a Ph.D. She received her PhD in nutrition from Auburn University.

“Before I started high school, I wanted to be a dietitian. I got my Ph.D. I went to Auburn University and finished my diploma and program evaluation, so I wanted to be a dietitian who reviews policy and programs. I specialized in becoming,” she said. “I develop curriculum. I do everything from community gardens to health care and care coordination and I absolutely love it. My Ph.D. focuses on community nutrition and public health. So that’s also where Hadiya and I intersect our areas of expertise.

Hadiya earned a bachelor’s degree with a pre-health concentration from Tuskegee University, a master’s degree in public health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), and is currently pursuing her M.D. degree from Ross University on the Caribbean island of Barbados. (MD) program.

“The first two years are over. I’m currently moving into my third year and I’m really looking forward to it. My goal is to take everything I’ve learned so far and put it into bite-sized pieces that I can feed to the people who matter most.” One of the reasons we’re doing this is because we want to make sure that we extend health care to people who don’t necessarily have health care nearby.

“I was really passionate about serving the local Birmingham community because there was so much to learn about the issues that we face, especially Black women, not only in Birmingham but also in the state of Alabama,” she said. added.

Hadiya recalled growing up and working at the food bank at their church (Church of God in Christ and Kingdom Victory in Bessemer). “Our grandmothers used to make us work there, and I think that developed my passion for service,” she said.

Jamila said she wanted to be a psychologist and then learned that nutrition is basically the psychology of food. “So we ended up merging,” she said.

The fact that their father, William Page, was a cardiomyopathy patient who underwent a heart transplant is another motivation for their passion for health and nutrition. Mr. Page passed away on February 21, 2005, as a result of an infection he contracted following a heart transplant.

“It definitely inspired us, especially me, to be a part of this production,” Jamila said. “…we just want people to know that we are willing to actively participate in the community. If you have a specific topic, think about it and ask your community to take it seriously.”

She added, “We want people to know we’re here and look for us. We’re active virtually as well as in-person. We want people to be active in our community.” We just want people to know that we’re involved. We’re excited to be involved in different projects. If anyone has a specific theme challenge they’d like us to consider. Then we can really work on that with the community.”
