The 2024 Indian Premier League is almost at the halfway point. The season started with some big moments, but perhaps the biggest one was Hardik Pandya replacing Rohit Sharma as the new captain of Mumbai Indians. The all-rounder returned to MI in November last year, but his appointment as captain next month caused a huge controversy as many fans opposed the sacking of five-time champion Rohit.

Moreover, when the season started, fans still didn’t seem to support Hardik, with the all-rounder being booed wherever he played, including MI’s home stadium, Wankhede. Hardik has not been helped by his own poor performance in the previous seasons. He took four wickets in seven matches and scored 141 runs at a strike rate of 146.87.

Former India batsman Robin Uthappa has detailed the potential events that led to Hardik’s return to Mumbai and made some pretty significant claims about the all-rounder’s mental state as he braved fan opposition, trolls and trolls. Abuse on social media platforms.Uthappa appears beer biceps On his YouTube channel, he talked about Hardik’s current situation in MI.

“He has the makings to be the best player ever for the Indian team. He was released by the team that discovered him and went to another franchise. After winning 3-4 titles with them, He left. He must have felt a little bad. He raced in GT and won the title, and then the conversation started.” Uthappa started speaking.

“This guy knows…he’s very aware of the ridicule, trolls, and memes about his fitness. Don’t you think it hurts him? It hurts any human being. He knows that reality. How many people? Yes, Hardik is dealing with mental health issues. I understand that we humans are emotional. But it is right to impose this kind of treatment on humans. No. It’s impossible for us as a society to be okay with doing that to someone. We shouldn’t make fun of it and we shouldn’t pass it on.”

Uthappa further cited the example of how Indian fans showered love on the national team after their heartbreaking defeat in the World Cup final and urged the fans to show similar kindness to Hardik Pandya. urged.

“It’s our job, and it’s certainly a passion, but for me it’s what puts food on the table. My work is on display for you to critique. Corporate people’s work is on TV. It’s not about criticizing or giving an opinion. In that case, we need to exercise some empathy and dignity towards the other person, to forgive them for their failures. One of them is the expression of love and reaction towards the Indian team after losing in the World Cup. That’s how we should be as a society and as Indians,” Uthappa said.

“Athletes’ careers are short”

Speaking about Hardik Pandya’s move to Mumbai Indians, Uthappa defended the all-rounder by saying he just wants to maximize his cricketing career and asserted that an athlete’s career is not long.

“We’re willing to rip a person down to their basics for a few memes, a laugh, and some money. These are the things he’s going through, but he’s like, I don’t know. I said okay if I come back to MI…is that wrong? Just from his perspective…is that wrong? He said, “I want a good deal.” Is that wrong? Athletes’ careers are very short. They want to maximize it. From his perspective, he’s right. He wants to win with Mumbai Indians and that’s why he came back,” Uthappa said.
