This can be a real game changer for those of us with phobias
Ireland has become the first country in the world to launch virtual reality hypnotherapy sessions for people who want to overcome their fears and phobias.
The launch of VR hypnotherapy by D4 Clinic in Dublin follows the success of a pilot project at Crumlin Children’s Hospital that used virtual reality hypnosis to help patients overcome their fear of needles.
The project was a great success and the results of the study were published by the world-renowned Mayo Clinic, which was named the number one hospital in the world.
Television and radio star Lucy Kennedy, who was one of the first to try this treatment, also praised the process.
She gave glowing testimony for helping her daughter overcome her fear of flying.
Following the success of a trial in Ireland, D4 Clinic, which developed VR hypnotherapy, has made the treatment available to its clients.
Psychologist Jason O’Callaghan said of the program’s success: “We have seen how helpful this type of immersive therapy is to children at Crumlin Hospital, helping to reduce their fear of needles, which we have also installed in our clinic.” Insomniac to support other clients with anxiety disorders.
“Unlike the Crumlin study, we will not be using headsets in the clinic as we will have a therapist.
“Also, in the clinic, clients have their eyes closed, so there is little point in using a headset.
“Instead, we set up an immersive environment using fans to simulate hot and cold air, a PA system to simulate surround sound, and eye masks to block out light.
“Recently, we helped the daughter of TV and radio star Lucy Kennedy overcome her fear of flying using this new hypnotherapy process, and from fear of public speaking to weight loss and quitting smoking. “I started using this hypnosis technique with all my clients,” O’Callaghan says. Added.
