jamestown community college has unveiled a meditation room and mural on its Jamestown campus.
The rainforest-themed murals that cover the room’s four interior walls were painted by second-year Studio Arts students. bailey landmark and JJ Moore.
JCC Counselor deanna shaw and Kristin Olson I came up with the idea of a meditation room to support my students.Counseling & Career Center Director morgan francina The goal is to “reduce the stigma around seeking mental health help by providing spaces on campus to teach students healthy coping strategies and familiarize them with practices such as mindful meditation.” .
JCC meditation rooms at the Cattaraugus County Campus and North County Center in Dunkirk are now open for the start of the fall 2023 semester.
The funds in this room are american rescue plan money from State University of New York.
Rooms include bean bag chairs, pillows, weighted blankets, yoga mats and guides, meditation guides, coloring books, stress relief activity books, essential oil diffusers, and small fountains.
Rooms are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at all JCC locations.
