LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, AZ —
The Private Health Promotion Services Program is offering a physical activity challenge called Steps to Improve Your Health until May 10th.
This challenge encourages Air Force members to reach a goal of 250,000 steps within six weeks. This is equivalent to 6,250 steps per day.
Physical activity doesn’t have to be strenuous or for long periods of time, Harris said. Walking just 30 minutes a day can improve your cardiovascular health and reduce excess body fat. It’s low-impact, requires minimal equipment, and can be done at your own pace.
In the pursuit of better health, it is essential to recognize that achieving health is not a destination, but a lifelong journey. It’s about making conscious choices and taking meaningful steps towards a healthier, happier life.
The Civilian Wellness web portal provides valuable tools and resources to assist us on our wellness journey. For example, a health risk assessment provides a comprehensive snapshot of your overall health.
Understanding your baseline health status allows you to identify potential risks and take proactive steps to address them. HRA becomes even more effective when you add additional information, such as recent blood tests and vital data, allowing for more accurate results and customized recommendations.
Throughout our health journey, it is important to address the various aspects that contribute to our overall health. Weight management plays an important role in maintaining good health and requires understanding the effects of excess weight and tips for goal setting, interpreting body composition, and making informed food choices.
Comprehensive nutritional knowledge is important, including understanding the U.S. Dietary Guidelines, portion control, and the role of protein in muscle maintenance. Additionally, being aware of the effects of exercise on your health, understanding the principles of FITT (frequency, intensity, time, type) and being conscious of hydration will help you maintain an active lifestyle. Both nutrition and physical activity are critical to health.
Finally, by emphasizing the importance of quality sleep and providing strategies for stress management, individuals can prioritize self-care and find balance in their lives.
