Shippensburg University held its 18th annual Wellness Fair on April 10 at the Cedia Union Building. 51 groups from within the university and the local community gathered in the multipurpose room. Participants were given a bingo card upon entry and encouraged to visit all booths listed on the card to win door prizes.
Campus organizations such as Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), Counseling Center, Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA), Learning Center, and Campus Farm will have booths at the event to promote their services and educate students on how to use their services. I informed you. One of many free resources available on campus. Other organizations such as UPMC, Wellspan Health, Commute PA, Kindly Canines, and Highmark educated students on different aspects of health and how to care for each.
“[The Wellness Fair] is important not only to students but also to the entire campus community. Wellness has all aspects, from physical health to mental health to spiritual health,” said Anita Weaver, one of the organizers. “The Wellness Fair truly reflects what the Wellness Wheel is all about.”
At the Wellness Fair, attendees can pet Kindly Canines’ therapy dogs, test their grip strength and body fat percentage at the Exercise Science Department booth, receive free stickers and fidget toys, and receive a free massage. I was able to., more.
Participants left the fair with new knowledge and resources to prioritize their health.
“I like that they show us what is available to us as students to help us within the community,” freshman Kylie Lesher said.
“I would like to thank the Faculty Health and Welfare Fund for supporting this event through a grant, the Wellness Fair Committee, the Provost, and the Office of Student Affairs for supporting the event,” Weaver continued.
SU’s annual Wellness Fair, sponsored by the Office of Human Resources and the University Counseling Center, will be held next spring to continue providing wellness education to the campus community.
