To commemorate Mental Health Awareness Month in May, the Child & Family Center will host a series of four seminars for parents and caregivers of children and teens. Each event will be held in the Center’s Education Building on campus at 21545 Center Point Parkway in Santa Clarita.
The first one Preventing teen suicide, discuss how to protect your teen from suicide, how to secure drugs and firearms, and how to talk to your kids about suicide and other risks. It will be held on Wednesday, May 8th from 6pm to 7:30pm.
The second presentation was Recognizing self-harm. Participants will learn what self-harm is, myths and misconceptions about why individuals self-harm, and how parents and caregivers can respond. The date and time is Tuesday, May 14th from 6pm to 7:30pm.
The third title is Our Teens, Social Media and Its Impact. An expert in the field shares current trends in social media and its impact, his teenager’s awareness of risky behavior, and how to talk to his teenager about social media. It will be held on Monday, May 20th from 6pm to 7:30pm.
The fourth and final presentation was early childhood mental health. This seminar will examine red flags and behaviors that may indicate the need for help, as well as ways to teach regulatory skills to young children. It will be held on Thursday, May 30th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
