CARE Home works with local children to create sweets to prevent traditional recipes from being forgotten.
Salisbury Manor, in Shapland Close, has joined Recipes to Remember, a national campaign aimed at preventing traditional family recipes from being lost forever.
A poll of 2,000 adults by Care UK, which runs Salisbury Manor, found that almost two-thirds, or 65 per cent, of people no longer use family recipes that have been passed down through generations. It turns out that 43 percent of those surveyed want to save them.

To help prevent family recipes passed down through generations from being lost forever, Care UK has launched a free downloadable recipe book, Recipes to Remember. This recipe book features recipes shared by care home residents from across the UK.
From foods enjoyed during the Second World War to quirky desserts from the 1970s, this book features residents’ favorite foods, and Care UK’s award-winning chefs help support older people. Recipes created are also included.
Hoping to continue spreading their recipes in Salisbury for years to come, the residents of Salisbury Manor, along with their team members, children and grandchildren, are rolling up their sleeves, donning their aprons and reminiscing about the old days. Shows how delicious your favorite foods are.
During a special baking session at her home, resident Barbra Thomas, 91, had fun teaching her children, Willow and Spencer, how to bake the family’s bread-and-butter pudding.
Barbra said: “I really enjoyed teaching the children how to make custard bread and butter pudding. I was very impressed with the little helpers. They were very polite students. ” he said.
Skye Williams, general manager of Salisbury Manor, said: “We are certainly here at Salisbury Manor as we head into the kitchen to revisit some of our residents’ favorite foods from decades past. I was preparing a snack.
“Food plays an important role in all of our lives, no matter our age, and there’s something special about the senses’ ability to evoke happy memories and emotions. That’s why we continue to pass down old family recipes. Continue and share it with the younger generation.” It’s very important.
“Everyone had a great time talking about their favorite foods, and watching the kids bake the classic recipes Barbra shared was definitely the best.”
