Parents Helping Parents, Inc., an Oklahoma nonprofit organization, partners with other organizations to provide mental health and substance abuse resources throughout Northeast Oklahoma through Hope on Wheels Bus Tours. Masu.
Parents Helping Parents Inc. leaders said they were inspired to create this collaborative effort after hearing from people living in rural areas about the lack of resources and options for support.
Organizations such as Grand Mental Health, Stonegate Center and the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services are all partnering to visit seven towns in northeast Oklahoma.
During these visits, everyone can participate and learn about different resources in their area regarding things they may not have known about, such as mental health and substance abuse.
“We have a bag of different resources, and we really hope that makes people aware. I mean, a lot of people in these communities are aware of this issue. They don’t know where to go.” Get help. So even if you’re in a small town or community, we want people to know that there is help out there for these issues and these things that you’re going through,” said Director of Parent Marketing and Outreach. said Tara Carr. Helping Parents said:
This is the first time that Parents Helping Parents Co., Ltd. is conducting a bus tour like this. One goal is to let people know about resources that may be available in nearby towns, even if the resources they may need are not available in their town.
“This means that if there isn’t a particular clinic in Wagoner that someone needs, maybe it’s in the next town 20 miles away, and while that’s not very ideal, at least they have an option. It’s not just about helping them understand.” So we’re just trying to let people know what’s available to them,” Kerr said.
