ALLENTOWN – The Greater Valley YMCA announced it will reopen the Wellness Center at its Allentown branch on Monday, May 13, offering Express Fitness Memberships to new and existing members. The Y will also offer group exercise classes for active seniors, and in September will offer two donor-supported free We are planning to introduce a pathway program.
On June 6, 2023, the Allentown branch located at 425 South 15th St. suffered extensive fire damage and was forced to close. The branch remains closed except for the child care center, which reopened on June 12, and the warming station, which operated from November until mid-April.
“Express Fitness memberships give you access to the wellness center’s cardio and strength equipment, as well as group exercise classes specifically designed for active seniors, all while reducing social isolation. , strengthens the spirit of community, body and mind,” explained Trish Feintel, director of operations. Greater Valley YMCA board member.
“The reopening of the Wellness Center for Express Fitness allows us to recommit to our mission through health and wellness,” Feintel continued. “We are excited to continue to explore and define the future vision for our Allentown branch and facilities across Lehigh and Northampton counties, while also providing wellness opportunities to the Allentown community.”
When Allentown Express Fitness Center opens on May 13, other areas of the branch will remain closed, including locker rooms, gymnasiums, racquetball courts and aquatics centers. The Greater Valley YMCA invested in an outside firm to perform a capital evaluation of all its facilities. Includes Allentown branch. There is no joining fee for new members of Allentown Wellness Center. Due to the limited services offered, our monthly membership fees are significantly lower than other Greater Valley Y branches.
Two YMCA Pathway programs will be introduced to Allentown this September. The Veterans Wellness Initiative is a free 12-week pathway program for veterans and their spouses to support a healthy lifestyle including personal training, mindfulness, and nutrition. The Healthy Horizons Pathway Program is also a 12-week free class designed to promote physical health and well-being for people on the road to mental health recovery. The YMCA Pathways program is 100% donor supported, so participation is free for eligible participants.
