
The UTK Mindfulness and Meditation Club holds a retreat in the woods each spring.
The Mindfulness and Meditation Club provides relaxation methods for UT students and allows them to focus on self-awareness and self-reflection. The club meets every Monday and Thursday at 6:00 pm in Room 376B of the Student Union.

The club prides itself on being authentic with what the club calls “live check-ins,” where students honestly tell the group about their efforts, both good and bad. Students who belong to clubs also create a sense of community, like having a second family.
of club has a variety of activities beyond weekly meetings. One of the events they host is a pop-up thrift shop. Some of the exhibits include clothing, books, and sometimes even sweet treats.
Another event hosted by the club is the annual spring retreat held at a cabin in the woods. This retreat is one of our most popular events because it allows students to spend time outdoors, socialize, and deepen friendships.

Maddy Hux, a senior majoring in wildlife and fisheries management, is the club president and has been involved with the club for about three years. From his experience with his club, Hux knows very well what it means to be mindful. Hux talked about another area: how mindfulness can benefit students.
“Mindfulness can also help improve concentration and improve academic performance,” Hux says.
The Spring 2024 semester is coming to an end, and for students, now is the perfect time to pay attention, as final exams are just around the corner. To aid in their mental preparation, students can utilize this club to benefit both academically and cognitively. They can relax and take a step back from the stress of finals.
The mind is the main source of stress. Depending on your mindset, that’s usually where the anxiety starts. Meditation allows a person to focus on himself, block out all noise and focus on his breathing. It’s understandable that some students don’t have time to join other clubs once the semester starts, or don’t feel comfortable opening up to a group of people. However, mindfulness and meditation clubs offer something for everyone. Hux spoke of the flexibility and atmosphere at the club.
Hux says, “Our club environment is very laid-back. Some days we have more energy than others, but we always focus on meditation. We enjoy ourselves.” “I’m here,” he said.
