The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India has approved financial support for the ‘AYUSH Center of Excellence’ project of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU).
The project has been initiated in collaboration with Government of India’s National Center for Cell Science (NCCS) and Bharti Vidyapeeth University Pune College of Pharmacy.
Commenting on the development, SPPU Vice Chancellor Suresh Gosavi said: “SPPU is a leader in research and training in the field in India. This project at the university is a brilliant outcome of the university’s efforts in this field. At a time when the world is struggling with many problems, the legacy of Ayurvedic and yogic knowledge Apart from the Health Sciences Department, the Departments of Bioinformatics, Zoology and Microbiology are also involved in this project.”
The Faculty of Health Sciences at SPPU has been at the forefront of Ayurveda and Yoga research for nearly 25 years. Dr. Bhushan Patwardhan from the department initiated the research. The department has so far completed many important projects at national and international level.
Mr. Patwardhan is a National Research Professor in the Ministry of AYUSH and the mentor of this project.
Commenting on the project, Patwardhan said: “Today, there is a need for interaction between the Ayurvedic knowledge tradition and modern science. This project can play a valuable role in developing this dialogue in a research format.” This is the second time that the AYUSH Center of Excellence has been awarded the honor, which is a tribute to the achievements of the university.”
