dekalb – Student Wellness is all week A variety of events dedicated to wellness programming, mindfulness, and relaxation for NIU students.
Starbucks will be selling “Lavender Green Tea Lemonade” from April 8th to April 12th. The Huskie Den offers BBQ chicken wraps on whole grain tortillas.
Students attending Spring Into Wellness Week events will also receive a 10% off coupon for specialty items, but coupons are limited per event.
NIU Counseling and Consultation Services, in partnership with NIU Dining, the Campus Activities Committee, the Asian American Resource Center, and the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center, will organize events and special items for student participation Monday through Friday. We offer
Monday
Smart Pong: From 2 to 4 p.m., participants can learn about smart goal setting in the Holmes Student Center. This is an Honors Connect and Business Passport event.
Tuesday
Chill out with Chase: A dog meet-and-greet will be held in the Holmes Student Center Wellness Lounge, Room 250 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Participants can play with Chase the therapy dog.
Procrastination Café: This weekly event is held at the Holmes Student Center in College Grind from 5pm to 8pm. This allows students to eat free snacks and earn prizes for completing homework.
Sowing Seeds for Mental Health: This event will be held in the Holmes Student Center University Suite from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. This self-care workshop provides ways for students to practice self-care and participate in creative activities. Pre-registration Required for this event. This is an Honors Connect and Business Passport event.
Worst of all: From 5pm to 7pm, this event will be held at the Asian American Resource Center. Author Neeta Bhusan will discuss her latest book, “That Sucked Now What,” and lead an interactive workshop for students to practice resilience. This is an Honors Connect and Business Her Passport event.
Wednesday
Sowing Seeds for Mental Health: This event will be held on Day 2 from 2:00pm to 3:00pm in the Holmes Student Center University Suite. Pre-registration is required. This is an Honors Connect and Business Passport event.
Exotic Fruit Tastings: Tastings from 4:30 to 8 p.m. will be held in Patterson Dining Hall. A variety of fruits from around the world are available to sample as meal swipes or for a fee to students and faculty.
Blossoming Hearts, Mental Health Embracing: From 5:00pm to 7:00pm, this event will be held at OASIS in the Holmes Student Center as a mental health awareness event. The event will include a variety of activities, including coloring and scavenger hunts. This is an Honors Connect and Business Passport event.
Mindfulness and You: 5 to 6 p.m. in the Illinois Room in the Holmes Student Center. “Mindfulness & You” will be hosted for students to practice mindfulness in a creative way by creating free bird collages. This is an Honors Connect and Business Passport event.
Thursday
Coping Skills Workshop: From 1pm to 2pm, Counseling and Consultation Services will be hosting a virtual workshop on Microsoft Teams on Coping Skills. Staff help students practice and learn skills to cope with a range of emotions during stressful times. This is an Honors Connect and Business Passport event.
Solar New Year: Celebrate the Solar New Year with a watercolor painting program at the Asian American Resource Center from 2 to 4 p.m. This is an Honors Connect and Business Passport event.
Crafting Gender: Self-Care, Flowers, and Building Friends: The Gender and Sexuality Resource Center co-hosts the event with Student Wellness from 4 to 6 p.m., in Room 250 of the Holmes Student Center. This event is designed to prioritize your health and self-care through painting, crafting, and snacking.
Let Wellness Shine: From 7pm to 9pm at MLK Commons, this CAB event features glow-in-the-dark wellness activities including yoga, tricycle racing, crafts, and more. This is an Honors Connect and Business Passport event.
Friday
Relax and unwind: The final event will be held at East Lagoon from 1pm to 4:30pm. Immerse your mind, body, and soul in nature while enjoying nature walks, crafts, and other activities on this half-day retreat. What you need for this event: Pre-registration. This is an Honors Connect and Business Passport event.
