Whether it’s a simple dal chawal or a stuffed paratha, a spoonful of pickle can elevate the flavor of any meal at any time of the day. In India, pickles, known as achar, are an essential part of traditional cuisine. And the best part is that there is no end to the achar recipes. Each family has their own way of pickling, which is passed down from generation to generation. Mr. Bhagyashree shares one achar recipe that we recently discovered. The actress took to Instagram to share a video of her mother preparing ‘gunde ka achar’. In the video, Bhagyashree’s mother can be seen stuffing boiled gum berries into a spice mix. The clip begins with the actress saying, “Mom’s summer specialty, gunde ka achar.” Next, Ms. Bhagyashree asks her mother about all the ingredients she added to her spice mix. She replied that her mother added hing, turmeric, red chili powder, methi, chane ki dal, kalonji and salt to taste. Once you have filled all the boiled gumberries with the spice mix, store everything in a jar and pour hot oil over it. Voila! Your gonde ka achar is ready.
